HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign in Kundapura

On October 9, 2025, students from Moodlakatte College of Nursing organized a vibrant flash mob and street play in Kundapura. The event was a part of an ongoing HIV/AIDS awareness campaign aimed at educating the local community about HIV/AIDS prevention and promoting ICTC (Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre) services. The event was a collaborative effort between the Udupi district administration and local health departments Udupi, the Indian Red Cross society Kundapura, Sunrise Rotary Club Kundapura, Moodlakatte college of nursing Kundapura and Church Road friends Kundapura all coming together with a shared goal to intensify HIV/AIDS awareness in the region.

The event was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the beginning of the program. The esteemed guest  Dr. Chandra Markala, Administrative Medical Officer Taluk Government Hospital Kundapura, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the importance of community awareness in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

In addition to the key speakers, several dignitaries were present at the event, including Dr. Premanand the Taluk Health Officer, Jayakar Shetty, President of Indian Red Cross Society in Kundapura; Gururaj from Sunrise Rotary Club Kundapura; Dr. Karun, Health Officer for ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) in Kundapura; Prof. Jennifer Freda Menezes, Principal of Moodlakatte College of Nursing Kundapura; and Sreekanth Rao from Church Road friends Kundapura. Their support and presence further emphasized the collective efforts being made to combat the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and promote HIV prevention in the community.

The event’s anchor, Nalinakshi, ICTC Counselor from Kundapura, guided the audience through the program, ensuring a smooth and informative experience for all participants.

The flash mob and street play, performed by the students, at Shastri Circle, New busstand ,  and Purasabhe Kundapura, served as a dynamic and engaging way to communicate key messages about HIV/AIDS, its prevention, and the importance of getting tested. The program highlighted the role of ICTC services, which provide essential counseling and testing for HIV, aiming to increase awareness and reduce stigma.

Through this event, the organizers successfully reached out to the local population, emphasizing the importance of knowledge and prevention in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The program was a significant step towards creating a more informed and supportive community in Kundapura.
